My husband and I will be on a cruise ship docking in Civitavecchia. We do not want to go to Rome. We instead want to take a train to Tarquinia or Ostia Antica to see the Etruscan ruins. Is this doable?

Trains from Civitavecchia to Tarquinia depart at 07:16, 11:15, and later. It's a 12-minute ride. Unless your ship arrives at the right time, taking a taxi might be your best option. To get from Civitavecchia to Ostia Antica you would need to take a regional train to Rome and the metro from there.

Also check your port date. We want to do the same thing last year but arrived on a Monday and everything was closed. Went to Rome instead.
