train station dilemma

We need to determine which train station to go to in Genova.. arriving from Milan at Stazione Principe and going to Acquarium for afternoon. Do we need to head back to Principe or is there another stazione we could get to in order to take a Regionale train onwards to Monterosso early that evening? Thank you.

There are several train stations in Genova. Many Regionale train runs depart from Genova-Nervi. You can see all train runs out of Genova on www.trenitalia.com. If you put in a date that is 7 days or less from the date you are visiting the website, you will see the fares for the Regionale trains.

Kathy, I've never been to the Aquarium, but it appears to be about the same distance from Genova Piazza Principe as from Genova Brignole. If you'll need to store luggage at the Deposito Bagagli, you will of course need to return to Piazza Principe. Both stations (as well as Genova Nervi) have numerous trains to Monterosso. In the same situation, I'd take a Taxi from the station to the Aquarium and also back to the station at the conclusion of your visit there. If you buy your tickets from Genova to Monterosso when you arrive at Piazza Principe, all you'll have to do when you return to the station is validate them and then board the train (assuming you'll be using a Regionale train). You can check the departure times and other details (ie: whether the trains are direct or have changes) on the Trenitalia website. Happy travels!
