Train station

Hello. My wife and I are staying in Varenna this September and needing to buy train tickets to go to Tirano. The guide book I have is from 2011 and states that you have to buy your tickets from the tobacco shop. Is that still true or is there a ticket window or machine at the station now? Thanks

This is a Trenord regional train, so no seat reservations, and the price is always the same. Download the app and buy the tickets via the app.
I'd suggest you pitch that guide book, especially since Covid, plus 14 years of technological advancement in all areas of travel.
Varenna is no longer a sleepy little stop, either. And- leave early, as the trains are often canceled or run late.

I'm assuming you're taking the incredible Bernina Express. You can take regional trains on this route, also, which means no seat reservations required, and trains that are much less crowded. These trains run on the same tracks as the panorama trains.
Have a great trip.

When we were there a couple years ago, there was a travel agency (separate door on side of station bldg) that was open during the day that we bought train tickets from. Have a great trip!

Note that buses will be replacing trains for the journey from Varenna to Tirano now through at least September 15.
The bus journey takes about 2:06.
