Train seat number arrangement

I was just successful in buying two round-trip second class tickets (ticketless) in May for my son and I from Rome to Venice on-line with a credit card, receiving the Mini fare! Was very happy to achieve that! Now I'm starting to fret (only slightly) about the seating arrangement. On the way to Venice we are in Coach 7, Seats 72, 74; on the way back to Rome we are Coach 5, Seats 42,48. When the prompt asked me what kind of seats I wanted on-line, I said "Window" Does anyone know how they number their seats. Are these seats together, or did they assign us two window seats in seperate rows? Is there anyway to check the seating arrangement?
We'll both be in the same coach at the same time headed for the same place, and that's what really matters. But I was just wondering ....

Elane, you can find a seat map for the Italy ES trains on the website Man in Seat 61. According to that , 42 and 48 are next to each other. On the other hand, 72 and 74 have a seat in between: one is a window seat and the other is across the aisle in the same row. It will probable be easy to trade.

Thanks, Lola. It took me awhile to find the seating plan, but I did. What a great site!

If the train is not crowded do what we do just plop into seats with some locals and start chatting away, it is fun to meet them, hear the local stories and the conductors never seem to mind.

You can sit in any seat you want as long as it's not reserved. Or you can trade seats if you are not sitting together (sometimes a little separation is a good thing on a long vacation!)
