Train Schedules

We will be traveling in Italy in a few months, but notice that there is a difference between trains and trains schedules to some of the towns we are planning to visit. This is using the ITALIARAIL site by Trenitalla as compaired to DB BAHN. If I go into the train station, which trains are offered, or are they all offered. We have traveled in Italy a number of time without any difficulty. Maybe I'm just checking into to much detail as I age!

I have seen slight differences between Trenitalia and Bahn.de, in routes and where they have you change trains. I think Bahn.de does not trust short connect times in Italy! For example, when we wanted to go from Verona to Firenze, Trenitalia said take the Regionale to Bologna and Frecce train from there. there was a 15-minute connect time at Bologna. Bahn.de said to take an earlier Regionale to Padua and catch the Frecce train there. This option was more expensive because we would be on the Frecce train for a longer distance. The extra cost would be €80 for 4 of us. We took the Trenitalia route and had no problems.

For Manarola to Milano the two websites had us change from Regionale to IC train in different villages.

You can compare the trains suggested by looking at the train number and the intermediate stops.

Also, DB (bahn.de) does not include the local private railways in Italy. Trenitalia does.
bahn.de uses the official timetable published twice per year. If there are short term alterations, for example due to track maintenance, these will be in Trenitalia, but not bahn.de

Jim,

I'd also suggest using the Trenitalia website for the most accurate information, as they're the operators of most of the trains in Italy. The bahn.de site has a few "gaps" as mentioned earlier, especially with some of the smaller rail companies. For example, last time I checked the bahn site did not show the route from Milan to Varenna, which is operated by Tre Nord.
