Train Schedule Question

Checking the Trenitalia site for a morning train Rome to Naples on July 14th, one of the trains has the letters RO OST , in red, under the departure time. It isn't a clickable link, and I cannot find a legend that explains this. Anybody know what differentiates this train from the rest? Here's the link to that page:

Going into the details of the schedule, RO OST refers to the train station Roma Ostiense, where the train stops prior to stopping at Termini (RO TE). I believe the train itself is coming from the north, not originating in Rome.

And the stations in red are typically the 'second-tier' stations, ie not the main station, hence the "warning, Will Robinson" red... You don't want to take a train that ends at station B, when you need to connect to another train that leaves from station A :-(

I read it a little different. The train departs from RO OST and not from Termini. So if you are at Termini you do not want to book RO OST. Hense the red alert because most long distance trains depart from Termini.

Frank is correct - the train does originate from Roma Ostiense. If you go into the details section of this trip, you see the following. INTERMEDIATE STOPS Arrival station - Arrival time - Departure time Roma Ostiense 10:05 10:07 Roma Termini 10:18 10:39 Latina 11:06 11:08
Formia-Gaeta 11:50 11:52 Aversa 12:26 12:28 Napoli Centrale 12:52 : So this train starts in Roma Ostiense at 10:07 then heads to Roma Termini -and parks for 11 minutes. Then it departs from Roma Termini at 10:39 AM. You can buy your ticket to ride this IC train, starting at Roma Termini if you like...

Exactly! So, the train starts at Ostiense (aka, '2nd-tier station'); if you're waiting at Termini (aka, 'main station') and looking for your train to depart at 10:07 but you can't find it...it's because it's actually at 'RO OST'. The Big Fun comes when you're expecting to just hop on the train that (for instance) starts at RO OST but Termini should be the next stop...only that train doesn't stop at Termini! Uh-oh. So, always pay attention to the actual stations that a particular train will pass through! Sometimes, the skeds will give you a train that (for instance) only goes to/from RO OST, and never to Termini! Again, hence the red letters! Not to slight any station I've called '2nd-tier', but most cities will have a 'main' station. Many tourists are only aware of the 'main' station (say, Termini), and get a BIG surprise when they inquire as to why their train hasn't arrived at the station yet (because it only went to Ostiense) 8^( It's very considerate of Trenitalia to use the red letters. (sing-song voice) Thanks, Trenitalia!

Thanks, friends! As Ostience is at the opposite end of town from our hotel, I've booked a train from Termini. Dave
