Train schedule from Florence to Pisa

I have gone on Trentalia's website, requested my dates and times but the site indicates that there are no trains with to/from destinations. My research indicates that there are several trains per hour that leave from Florence to Pisa. Are there different train lines? If so, can anyone tell me the name of the train/s? I would like to buy my tickets prior to arriving in Italy due to I am a first time traveler to Italy.

All these posts are good. If you are just passing through, there is a Left Luggage (luggage storage) at the Pisa station. Safe and reliable. If it is just a quick "see the tower and run" trip, you can usually make the site and back in about 90 minutes by walking.

Marilyn, I wouldn't bother buying tickets before arrival in Italy, as it's so easy to buy them there. As someone else mentioned, you can use either the automated ticket machines or go to a ticket agent. ¶ As a "first time traveller", BE SURE to validate your ticket in the small yellow box prior to boarding the train! I noticed when I was in Europe a few months ago, that Conductors on some trains are now "packing" portable Debit / Credit Card Terminals with them and especially in Italy fines can result for not having the "correct" ticket. ¶ As a first time traveller, I'd also recommend taking a copy of the "Italy" Guidebook along, as I've found that it's valuable for reference during trips. ¶ WHEN are you going to be travelling in Italy? There are numerous trains every day on that route, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a ticket. The trip ranges from 1H:02M to about 1H:17M, depending on which train you choose. The stations you'll be travelling from/to are Firenze S.M.N. to Pisa Centrale (and I'm assuming the same on return). Happy travels!

Marilyn, How are in the future are you trying to book? There should be many train options for that short trip from Firenze SMN to Pisa Centrale. I don't use the trenitalia site myself, but I suspect the computer doesn't recognize the date or have a schedule for that date yet. Just a guess.

Marilyn, the reason you can't see the information on the trenitalia site is they don't publish the regional train info more than a week out. You would need to put in a date for sometime this week to see the times and fares. I can tell you the trip takes just over an hour and costs 5.80 euros. Always use the trenitalia site to find schedules and prices for all train types. For the regional trains you can use dates within the week, for others you can use the real date. I know you want to buy your tickets before you go but trenitalia doesn't take U.S. credit cards and you can't buy regional tickets that far in advance anyway. Just buy them when you get there. Donna

The regional trains are really easy to deal with. After you buy your tickets and figure out which binario (track), just head that way and then before boarding, look for the yellow box to validate the Firenze to Pisa ticket. If you are doing a day trip, you can also buy the return tickets when you buy the first ones, remember to validate those in Pisa before heading back to Florence. The regional trains don't sell out so you really don't need to worry about buying those tickets in advance.

don't worry, you'll be fine. as PP said, just buy your ticket that day. I just returned from Florence. They have machines, a little tricky, or you can just walk up to the ticket counter. Most/all ticket agents speak English and you just tell them what you want. It's usually an unreserved ticket that can be used any day on any train going to Pisa. It is important to validate your ticket at the machine before getting onboard. HAve a great trip. A little OT, but I also recommend Best of Tuscany tours if you have the time. It goes to Sienna, San Girmango and Pisa with a great lunch. You can book directly or with viator.com. It was my favorite part of our trip. Elaine (from NOVA)
