Train schedule for summer- Should I book now or wait.

Just wondering because some of the seats say sold out but they just opened up the summer schedule. What gives? Do they go lower?
Do I wait or you think i should book now? I am going from Venice to Naples. Also what is the train station code for Rome?
Thank you

Yes, it just opened today. How can they be sold out?
Also will it go lower in price later on?

Italian train ticket are NOT like US airline tickets that change hourly depending on what the computer is thinking. Three levels of fares on Italian trains -- Super Econ, Economy, and Base. The SE and E are discounts ticket with limited/fixed numbers of tickets sold for each train. The more popular the train, few tickets available. Once the tickets are sold they are gone for that train on that day and hour. Prices do not change. It is the same whether you buy tomorrow or six minutes prior to boarding. The availability of tickets is the issue. In Italy you must use the Italian spelling of the city -- Rome is Roma, Florence is Firenze, Naples is Napoli , etc.etc. And tutte Le Stazioni means any station for that area.

PS I was just on the trenitalia site. What makes you think that they opened today? June 19 is not available for booking yet. Relax the discount tickets are not gone, yet !!

PPS It is extremely rare for any train in Italy to completely sell out. The cheap tickets will but the base fare is almost always available.

We are willing to help but you have to talk to us. The cheap seats do not sell out in less than 24 hours. I have seen cheap tickets available the week before. You are use to the the games the US airlines have trained us to play. Here one moment, gone the next. The Italian trains just don't work that way. Where are you getting your information?????

Italotreno is the private train company using trenitalia tracks and stations. They run primarily high speed trains with limited service between major cities. Stick with trenitalia.com (National rail site). Italotreno has similar but also different pricing structure as trenitalia. If you want the discount tickets wait for trenitalia release. Sometimes the fares will be close if they are running head to head to trains.

You are correct. I was editing when you were posted. When I first saw his response I was thinking of ItailRail.com that is a travel agency often mistaken for trenitalia. After I hit the posting button and reviewed my comments I realized my mistake. So went back and edited it but was not quick enough.

Once the tickets are sold they are gone for that train on that day and hour.

True, and you are probably right. On the other hand, imagine you are Italo"s marketing manager and for once you have opened the bookings before Trenitalia... wouldn't you put on hold all the cheapest fares? I mean, they have no competition now and seeing all low-cost seats sold out in March is strange.
