Our flight is arriving in Rome around 9:15 AM. We need to take a train to Rome Termini and then from Rome to Florence. Any recommendations for times to leave the airport to the main train station and from Rome Termini to Florence?

Since there is no telling if your flight will arrive on time, or how long passport control will take (if you have to do that), you should just buy your ticket at the airport train station when you get there. Or, download the Trenitalia app and buy with that once you have your luggage. It would be one ticket through to Florence. There will be a train from Termini to Florence at least every hour, generally, at least 2 every hour in the morning.

We have landed at FCO an hour early, on time and then it took an hour plus in immigration; there is just no predicting. We had very good friends that last fall pre-purchased their tickets from Termini to Bologna on arrival day; however, their plane was late and immigration took too long - so they missed their train and had to purchase new (additional) tickets.
While we tend to pre-purchase all high speed train tickets, on arrival day, we just purchase these tickets once we are there.
