Could someone please suggest the most direct train route for Venice to CT. should I purchase train tickets on-line or just at the train station?

THANK YOU!

Christine, did you read all the advice under my posting with the same title? I just went through all this. From all the research I just went through, the most direct route from Venice to CT is via Florence. All the advice I've seen says to purchase tickets while in Italy. One poster under my question gave the name of a ticket agency in Venice that is recommended by Rick Steves. Or, you can see timeframes by visiting the www.trenitalia.com website. You do not have to register in order to view routes.

Christine,

As the previous post indicated, the information you need is probably in a previous post here on the HelpLine. However, regarding your question....

The most "direct" (quickest) route is via EuroStar Italia/Alta Velocita (2nd Class ~€51.20, reservations compulsory but included with P-P ticket). Checking the Trenitalia website (using an arbitrary date) I found a train departing Venice at 08:27, arriving La Spezia at 13:19 (time 4H:52M, one change at Firenze S.M.N.). From La Spezia you can board the local train to any of the C.T. villages (times are listed in the Italy Guidebook).

There are Travel Agents in Venice where you can buy tickets (listed in the Guidebook), but in that situation I'd probably buy an outgoing ticket at Venezia S.L. when you arrive there.

Happy travels!

And please don't write in all capitals. In Internet language it's shouting. And we don't like to be shouted at. Thanks.
