In late September we will be taking a ferry from Sicily back to the mainland and heading north (probably the next day) on the train from wherever we land. This part of our trip is about scenery, not about sites. Should we land as far south as possible in Civitavecchia or would Livorno or Genoa be just as good?
Lo: No answers yet to your question. It was confusing to me. If you could restate the question, or simplify it--then possibly we can find someone here to answer it.
The train route I'm interested in runs along the coast from Civitavecchia through Livorno and Genoa and on to France. I guess my question is, "Which part of the coastline that we can see from the train between Civitavecchia and France is the most worth seeing?"
Lo, I have not taken this run but it is my understanding that much of the run is not within sight of the coast. As for where to land, I might suggest Livorno. The ride north from there is quite scenic. Lots of coast line. Also, you will go through the heart of the CT. It might be a shame to whiz on through and not stop at a town or two.
Just for fun, CLICK HERE to see the morning train runs from Livorno Centrale to Nice Ville in France. If you pick one of the runs that show the R train (under Train Category) going to Genoa P.P., you should be able to hop off and hop back on a train of similar category (another R train) without penalty. Don't attemt this on an ICPlus train. Not permitted.
