Train Rome to Bologna

We will be traveling from Rome to Bologna in late March. Do I need to (or should I) purchase our train tickets before we arrive or can I easily get them at the station that day?

Janet, no problem in getting the tickets when you arrive in Italy. A day or so in advance is best but most likely you can walk up, buy the tickets and get on. The big question is how much do you want to pay for the ticket? Are you willing to buy a non-refundable ticket 119 days out from the time of travel in trade for a very nice discount? The regular base fare for 2nd class is 56Euro. I see the Super Economy fares right now for some runs in late March still on sale for 19Euro. Once they are gone, it's the Economy fares at 29Euro. If you wait until you get there, it will be 56Euro. The journey takes about 2hrs on the fast train.
