Train Resv Error Milano to Firenze

Just made a reservation for two a little while ago on capitainetrain.com. The confirmation shows two names, my name and my granddaughter's. However, when I pull up the actual ticket it shows only my name on both. I can't cancel or change this. Do I need to make a new single reservation for my granddaughter or do you think they'll let her use the extra ticket I now have even though it's not in her name? Please advise ASAP since I need to go ahead and reserve a seat for her at the best fare, if necessary.

That is standard practice for train tickets; one "lead" name is often used for a group. The conductor onboard will only check ID for the purchaser, which may be your credit card, rather than photo ID.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. Is this standard practice even for Freccia reserved seats? I know on TGV the tickets will print out one with my name and the other with my granddaughter's.

In theory names should match. In the real world, the conductor has a small handheld terminal and he/she is interested to check that the data on your ticket matches the data on his/her terminal. The first and often only things to be checked will be PNR code and seats numbers. In most cases the checks stop here. I have been asked a couple of times to state the name of the person who made the reservation online, again to see if it matches the name on the terminal. I never found a conductor actually checking passports or ID cards.

I assume you are doing the trip on a Frecciarossa. With online tickets on regional trains or night trains or intercity trains, names can be checked more carefully to avoid possible frauds (mainly multiple uses).

There is no theory here. Laura is correct. Anytime more than one ticket is purchased together only the name of the original purchaser is listed. The other names may be listed with the reservation (not on the ticket) so you are good to go for both of you. When the conductor comes around, you show the printed out ticket with the code, and the credit card used to purchase the tickets. He will slide the card through a hand held unit, confirm the ticket is for two, and move to the next person. There is no difference is how the procedure is handle on any train with a reservation. Check with your credit card company to make sure you were charged for two tickets just in case something did happen.

Unfortunately American tourists only experience is with the our airlines and TSA requiring exact names, birthdate, etc., which is not the situation with train travel. European train travel is a lot looser when it comes to security issues. Hard to drive a train into a building or divert it to somewhere else.

Our experience is that ticket checking is far less frequent on Regionale trains or even ICs trains. Have been on many Regionale where I was never checked. And names were never checked because there is no names associated with a Regionale ticket.

Somewhere on the ticket purchase screen is a place to enter other passenger name(s). I have printed out several tickets with each name listed. But it's not a required field, so many people skip or don't notice it.

You are good to go with the tickets you have.

Thanks for all the assurance. I feel much better. Now on to the next step. Hopefully not as much drama the next time you hear from me.

Never had an issue with names or even ID. the conductor on the train just checks to make sure my ticket is valid for that day and route.
