Train reservations, how far in advance can you make them?

I'm interested in making train reservations for Sept. and Oct. I can't figure out how far in advance I can do so. Does anyone know?
Thanks!

Check out Ron in Rome's info: Booking on the Trenitalia website It's one of the best sites for specific info on travel in Italy. Happy travels.

You should be able to book the high speed trains for travel in October. If you wish to ride the slower regional trains you should just buy tickets the day of travel as there is no benefit or discount for buying them in advance. Donna

If the schedule is available you can make the reservation. Generally about 60 days out is a good mark. However, the ONLY reason for advance reservation is the discounts but that locks you into a schedule. Trains rarely if every sell out.

The last part of that trip is by regional train which is probably why you cannot book it so far in advance. Just book the tickets from Milan to Bari to get the discounts then once in Italy you can buy the last portion of the trip. This should solve the problem of not being able to book the tickets. Donna

I am travelling through Italy Oct 1 - Oct 10 and can purchase my Trenitalia tickets online now. The mini fare rate saves quite a bit on the four point to point tickets that I plan to purchase. I hope to confirm a few ancillary details and make the plunge into purchasing those tickets online this week.
