train reservations

Is it necessary to purchase and make reservations in advance on Italian railroads. We will be traveling Rome to Assisi on a Friday and Assisi to Venice on Saturday. Or is it just as easy to buy them at the station

To begin with, you might want to delete your two duplicate threads on this topic. Asking the question three times won't result in a faster answer.

No, it's not necessary to make reservations in advance. If you buy tickets locally, reservations will be provided with the tickets if required. Some of the trains you'll be using will be Regionale trains, and no reservations are possible with those. Just show up, validate your ticket and then board the train.

The best way from Rome to Assisi is by Regionale trains which are cheap and do not accept reservations. Might be a good idea to buy the tickets the day before so you don't get caught in a long line at the ticket window, or buy from a vending machine at the train station. Don't forget to validate before boarding.

Assisi to Venice will involve a high speed train from Florence, which will be reached by a Regionale from Assisi. If you are willing to commit to a nonrefundable, non-changeable ticket, you can get a discount on the high speed train. In fact, they have 2-for-1 tickets on Saturday, but must be bought at least 24 hours before departure.
