train reservation rome to italy--reservation?

We are arriving in Rome on a thursday morning and traveling
to Florence. Depending on flight being on time or not ( have had bad luck re:flights to europe in general!) should we make a train reservation or can we just pay and go? Have read varying answers.

I never purchase train tickets for the day of arrival. Too many things can happen and then you have to spend time re-booking on a later train, unless you bought mini fare tickets which are then worthless. Just buy them when you get to the train station. Donna

Diane, you can easily edit an existing topic you've posted. There's a little link right under the topic and above your name that is available only to the OP when they're logged in. Same for deleting it or editing any response you've posted. There'll be a little link right above your name. As for your question, I agree with the others. Wait until you get there. Good for you for asking BEFORE you bought the tickets. :-) When are you traveling?

Oh my, absolutely buy your ticket once you are in Italy. Too many things can go wrong to cause a delay (late flight, lost luggage etc.) and, as many posters will say, the high speed trains will not be sold out.

Buy your ticket at the ticket office in the airport when you buy your ticket for the Leonard Express. You can buy full fare tickets in advance but you have only an hour to exchange for a new ticket if you miss the train. If it is a discount ticket, then it is gone. So wait.
