Train Recommendation

I'd like to take advantage of the train savings if I purchase 90 days in advance, could someone let me know what is their train preference on traveling in the afternoon ( approx 12-3pm) or evening (4-6pm)?

I'm traveling from Venice to Florence, Florence to Rome and Rome to Milan.

thanks in advance!

You can usually purchase 120 days in advance....

BUT....I would really pick the time that best suits your needs, because most of the trains you will be using will be ones with reserved seats, so you wouldn't need to worry about how busy it is, because you will be relaxing in your train seat on your wonderful trip you saved money with!

The nice thing is, starting 120 days out when they go on sale, you can shop the schedule. Lets say I'd like to go from Venice to Florence. Since I like to get out of bed at a reasonable hour, enjoy the hotel breakfast, and make my leisurely way to the station. I'd pick a 9:35 departure. But when I look on line, I can see that only Economy tickets are available on the 9:35 and 10:35 departures, but the 11:35 departure has Super Economy tickets available. That's when I'm going. The early morning trains fill up with business travelers, so taking late morning trains are usually cheaper. You generally can't check into your hotel until 3 pm, so why try to get there any earlier. As with the morning, late afternoon and early evening trains get a lot of business traffic. Late night trains are cheaper.

Hm I'm thinking to take the 5:25pm train from Venice to Florence. On trenitalia, I found it for 19 euros per person.

Dmal,

I prefer to travel in the late morning, and that way I have time to enjoy my breakfast at the hotel before heading out.
When I arrive to my new destination, I leave my luggage at the hotel and it's time for lunch and sightseeing!

If the 5:25 is the one you want, go for it. That'll give the morning and early afternoon to enjoy Venice. The hotel will hold your bags until you are ready to head to the station.

If you leave your bags at the hotel, make sure you leave enough time to retrieve them - the vaporetto is a slow ride.
