Train questions

I'm trying to decide if it would be worth 90$ to have a personal tour guide pick us up at the Naples airport and drive us to sorrento, or should I just save some money by taking the local train? I know it would eliminate the worry of pickpockets or hauling our luggage from the airports to each train stations? I'm not sure how much the express train from Naples to sorrento? Thanks

The train costs less than 15 euros each.

If you put your money, credit cards and passports in a money belt under your clothes you won't need to worry about pick pockets. Keep your other bags locked and secured and you'll be fine. The train is a commuter train so your luggage will be with you the entire time. It's a really easy trip to make so I would save the money and take the train.

If you're coming into Naples via the airport, this is another good option:

Comfortable, safe and a LOT less expensive (10 euro PP). See schedule in the little box in the upper right of the page:

9:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:30, 16:30, 18:00, 19:30

This is a nice "coach" type bus.

Editing to add: there is no "express train" from Naples airport to Sorrento. You might be referring to the Circumvesuviana "Campania Express" which has run the last two seasons from Napoli Garibaldi (next to Centrale) to Sorrento on a limited basis. Schedules for that one aren't up yet for 2017, and would involve transfer from airport to train station. Otherwise, the regular Circumvesuviana commuter departs from that same station on a much more frequent basis but would not be as comfortable or convenient as the Curreri bus.

For me, the train would be the worst option due to the inconvenience of getting from the airport to the station, then changing to the train (hauling luggage as you say).

I'd definitely take the Curreri bus, since it's a "one seat ride." If you're not up for that, then a pre-booked car is a very nice convenience/luxury.
