Train Question for Late Summer Travel

I have looked for an answer to this and cannot seem to find it, so I will pose it to people here who might know.
My travels are in late August into early September. I traveled by train in 2015 and loved the simplicity that it provided getting me from city to city in Italy, so there's no question that's my transport mode of choice.

That trip was planned within about a month and a half before traveling, so I was unaware of the ticket pricing tiers, and so close to departure that I was not able to enjoy super economy pricing.

What I am trying to find out is about train schedules and ticket purchases for this year's visit.
I have read on this forum many times that new train schedules are published June 10 and that you will not find tickets available for travel days beyond that until the schedules are posted. I have also read that it's best to purchase your fares for "known-and-set-in-stone" travel as early as 120 days before those travel dates.

My "120 days before travel" days will start appearing on my calendar in the next couple of weeks. If fares are not available for purchase until June 10, will this shorter purchase window effect the availability of the discount priced tickets, and do other travelers buy them up more quickly at the beginning of the purchase window than if there were 120 days before traveling rather than the 75 or so there will be in this case?

That mid-June schedule thing does not seem to affect the Frecce trains in Italy (the fast trains with the advance purchase discounts). You will find Super Economy fares available on most Trenitalia routes up to August 20 now. Italo has only released fares through the end of July, but August may be coming soon. So you should be able to purchase your Super Economy (or Italo equivalent) tickets around the 120 day mark.

I don't know where you're going in Italy but a test for Firenze S.M. Novella to Roma Termini is showing tickets available for purchase for dates up to Aug 21: 120 days from now.

On the date 120 days out from your first journey, I'd enter your data into the Trenitalia website and see what comes up? I'm thinking it's routes involving the slower trains - like regionales - which may be more affected by the June 10 turnover, and those may be even show earlier than that.

Italo is only showing tickets for that same route through end of July so not as far out as Trenitalia but they often have competitive rates. I'd give that a look too.

(Sorry for the redundancy, Lola: was still typing as you were posting!)

Many of the Freccia schedules are out now. Go to http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
Put in your dates and cities and if you can buy it now it will show you a price and you can proceed to purchase.

There are still a few issues. For instance, as of a week ago there were still no morning trains showing up for Naples to Salerno. Another issue is if your route involves a connection to a Regionale. These don't get scheduled until the last minute before June 10 for political reasons, ie state subsidies. But you can always purchase the Freccia portion on-line and get Super Economy tickets, and buy the Regionale portion later when they become available. Their price never changes.

Thank you for the responses. I did not realize the June 10 date pertained to just regional trains, some of which I will use and know they are no better priced in advance than walk-up.
I recently tried the fare search for Firenze SNM to Venezia S. Lucia for a date in July and was rejected (as with the screen one gets when the dates are not available), so I thought "fast train" tickets were under the same summer schedule umbrella. It might have been just a glitch that happens from time to time in this computer age, which I took as something else completely.

Thank you again for your helpful replies

June 10th, more or less, applies to all trains BUT the fast trains get up loaded first with the Regionale trains being the last to be published. You are correct. Never buy Regionale train tickets on time. Wait till the station.

Just tested for random July date (the 27th) and tickets are available. :O)

In answer to the question in your last paragraph, if you can't buy the tickets for a particular route on a particular date, no one else can. So, no one can "beat you out" on buying tickets, until they actually become available for purchase. So, just check every day or two, and when the tickets become available, buy them.
