If you were told the adult rail tickets (you may purchase) are "80% refundable before train departure; non-exchangeable, per Rail Europe's website" would you assume they are base fare or economy fare or less? I have a credit I must use thru a travel agent or lose the money. I have booked my own hotels and probably my own transfers (if I need them) thru the hotels because they are much cheaper. I am just trying to decide what kind of a ticket I am purchasing for the amount she is quoting me. They are 1st class and the time works well for us. I have looked on Trenitalia and their base fare is close to what I am being quoted. I know Rail Europe is more costly, maybe their terms are different also?
This is something you should probably clear with Rail Europe. There are a variety of discount tickets. R Europe is a travel agency or reseller of tickets and generally do not offer the discount tickets available through Trenitalia. We never use First class tickets as we do not think they are worth the additional cost but some travelers just prefer first class. A full fare ticket ticket is fully refundable and exchangeable. The deepest discounts tickets are not and the inbetween discout tickets are exchangeable up to 24 or 48 hours (don't remember which) as credit towards the current price of the next ticket your purchase.
