Hello,
Looking at trains going from Venice- Venezia Santa Lucia station to Milan- my hotel is very near Metro station MM1 Porta Venezia- is it better to take a Train to Milano Centrale or put in Porta Venezia when looking at schedules? It seems there are many different rates comparing Italo and Trentalia.

You’ll want to take a train to Milano Centrale from Venezia S. Lucia. Once you arrive at Milano Centrale, you may either take the Metro, or a taxi to your hotel.

Actually, the best way to get to Porta Venezia with public transport is to exit Milano Centrale on the northwest side (to your right, as opposed to the front door) and take the No 9 tram. You can buy transport tickets at a tabacchi inside the station. Don't forget to validate your ticket in the box inside the tram.
