Train pricing question for Rome to near Florence

Hi everyone, We will in Italy in late August (I know, not the best time but what we could manage). We are flying into Rome to do some sightseeing before we head up to Montevarchi-Terranuova for a week's stay in a villa. We want to take the train from Rome to Montevarchi on a Saturday. I can figure out the times and pricing for the Trenitalia but when I try to figure out the costs for the regional train from Rick's maps, I can't make sense of it. And the cost of the regional isn't available on the Trenitalia site for me to compare pricing. We are traveling with 4 adults and 2 children and I wanted to see if the pricing for the regional would be significantly less than the fast train (though on the fast train we'd get the family discount). Does anyone know where I can find regional pricing for my route? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Prices for regional trains are only shown if the departure is within the next 7 days. So, just look at the same day of the week you want to travel, within the next week.

Most runs shown on Trenitalia want to route you through Florence first. Not too bad except they would like you to take the high-speed from Rome to Florence. The base fare on this run is 43Euro. Then, you get the Regionale to Montevarchi-Terranuova. Fare on this train is 5.20Euro. Total travel timei is about 2.5hrs. (I saw the fare by putting in July 10). Trenitalia shows the occasional Regionale Veloce from Roma-Termini to Montevarachi for 13.95Euro. Travel time is 3.0hrs. So, for an extra 30 minutes, you can save 34.25Euro on the base fare. If you are willing to lock in a specific train on a specific date with a non-refundable ticket, you can probably get an overall economy fare of 24.20Euro. That's still 10.25Euro over the all-Regionale fare. If you like the Regionale Veloce idea, I see departures at 6;13, 9:13, 11:13, 13:13 and 15:13. Also, if you like this option, you will not be able to purchase an all-Regionale ticket farther out than 7 days from the time of travel. But, not to worry. No seat reservations are permitted on the Regionale trains. They are like buses. You buy your ticket, validate it, get on an find your own seat. If no seats, you can stand. Just buy your Regionale tickets a day or two early. Regionale tickets are good for 60 days for any Regionale train making the run shown on the ticket. The best news on this run is that these trains orginate in Rome. Thus, they are empty there. Just show up 30-40 minutes early and easily get your seats together. If not, and the train has lots of passengers, it's Italy. You'll do just fine.

Thanks! That clears up the pricing. I did look on the web for pricing for this week but it still didn't come up so thank you for sharing.
