Our hotel is about 1 KM from Termini... are we better to take a cab from the airport or the train from the airport and a cab from termini to oiur hotel? How much will cab rides be?
Here's a third option...take the train to Termini, then walk to Via Cavour. We stayed at the Nicolas Inn (295 Via Cavour) and it was about a 15-20 minute walk from Termini, all downhill. Very safe and a lot to look at along the way.
I would base my decision on (1) how tired you think you'll be when you get in; (2) how much luggage you'll be carrying; (3) if you've been to Rome before and what your comfort is; and (4) your ages. Also, if it's brutally hot when you arrive, it may be well worth the comfort of a taxi.
sally,
In that situation, I'd take the Leonardo Express from the airport to Roma Termini, and then a Taxi to your Hotel. After a long flight and hauling luggage, I wouldn't be in the mood to walk.
Cheers!
Or just take the subway?
Your hotel is not 1 km from Termini, it's only 2 blocks if it is at 18 Via Cavour. A taxi will not take you from Termini for a 2 block ride - or if the driver will he'll drive you all over town and charge you a huge fare. I prefer to arrange for private transfer when flying transAtlantic. The Leonardo Express train is cheaper and then you can walk to your hotel from Termini.
Good catch SamSn! I thought the address was vaguely familiar when I first saw the post, but I missed what you picked up on: it's only a block and a half from Termini! I'm guessing that address is the Albergo Massimo D'Azeglio.
Thank you all! Love this site... wish we could all travel together!
What was confusing me was that Via MIchelin said it was .8km... perhaps a tad far when dragging luggage... but it appears via is picking up another address a little further down the road. Thank you for helping me sort this out!
We stayed at hotel paba -- 266 via cavour. Took the Leonardo Express to Termini, hopped onto the metro down to the Colosseo stop and then walked the rest of the way. You're so much closer, I think you can just walk it from Termini unless you have a ton of luggage or people in poor health.
However, I HIGHLY recommend going to Google and using the Street View to "walk" from the train station to your hotel. It's much easier to find the sometimes hidden hotels if you're visually familiar with the geography, and it may save you some wandering in circles/backtracking.
Good advice from Liz, if you do what she said, you can get a street view of the hotel at 18 Via Cavour and see how close to Termini it is, a block and a half, as first said by SamSn.
