Going to Sorrento in oct and then Rome. My question should i fly to Naples with a layover before, or fly nonstop to Rome and take the train to Naples? The extra time with laois about two hours

I’d fly to Naples
From Rome you still need to get to Termini then to Naples then to Sorrento (3 trains) - that will take well more than 2 hours
There is a bus that goes from Naples airport direct to Sorrento
I don’t have a link handy but it’s the Curreri Viaggi bus

Once you at the airport, stay there. Book your flight into Naples and come home from Rome. Probably cheaper and much faster than going to Rome and then two trains to Sorrento. Take the bus from Naples' airport.
