Train or Bus Travel from Orvieto to Sorrento

Is it possible to travel by train or bus from Orvieto to Sorrento? Would I have to transfer someplace and if so, where (Rome, Naples)? How could I access a detailed schedule to plan this part of traveling and avoid getting stranded midway? I'm using the Italy 2011 guidebook route, but there isn't any train or bus information for the Orvieto to Sorrento route.

I would book the train from Orvieto to Rome (regional train) then from Rome to Naples (high speed train). Once in Naples you'll need to change to the commuter train, the circumvesuviana. You won't be able to book the regional trains more than a week in advance so don't worry about the first leg of your journey. Same for the circumvesuviana. Just buy those tickets in the Naples train station. That train comes every 15 minutes so you just hop on the next one into the station. For the Rome to Naples leg you can book those ahead of time and save money by getting the "mini" fare. If you do buy the mini tickets be sure of your travel dates and time. They have very strict return and exchange policies. If you wish to check out the schedules for yourself you can visit : http://www.lefrecce.it/B2CWeb/search.do?parameter=initAdvanceSearch&status=travel&newTrip=Y Use the names Orvieto, Roma termini and Napoli centrale. For the regional trains you won't be able to see a price more than 7 days in advance as they don't sell them beyond that. You will be able to enter the rome to naples leg and see the timetable and price. Donna
