We are planning on taking the Bernina Express next summer from Zurich-Chur-Tirano. Many websites seem to indicate the only way from Tirano to Milan is by bus, but DBahn and Trenitalia seem to indicate there is a train available on the same route. Am I missing something or is the train an option? Thanks
DB and Trenitalia are two big state owned train operators. They know what they're talking about. "Many websites" can be just someones blog.
It is an easy journey of 2.5 hours by regional train, no changes. Departures from Tirano are nearly hourly, with a few 2-hour gaps.
Whichever website said the only way is by bus would be a website I would not trust, or use again.
It appears that the train line was under construction for parts of 2022 and a bus was substituted for part of the route. All appears normal now. That is what they must have been referring to. Thanks
RE8 goes from Tirano to Milan.
Use Google maps and select the mode of transportation. Trains in this case
There are many direct trains from Tirano to the Milano Centrale station taking 2h 45m meaning no transfers required.
