Train or Bus from Lucca to Rome?

We are arriving in Lucca for a quick 2-day visit before heading to Rome. What is the best way to get to Rome via public transit without going back to Florence. I would like to see a different stretch of countryside. Thank you for any suggestions.

You could go to Pisa and take a train coming down from Genoa and directed to Rome via the coastal route. I don't know if there are direct bus options without changes somewhere.

Train is better than bus for this route. You can train from Lucca to Rome via Florence or Pisa. The trains are frequent going about once an hour. Will take about 3 1/2 hours total. If you are traveling on a Sunday I would double check the schedule.
