Train or bus access from Rome to Civita di Bagnoregio

Can we train or bus to Civita di Bagnoregio and back from Rome in May? Or should we spend the night in Bagnoregio or Orvieto instead?

I would spend the night in Orvieto, bus schedules aren't always convenient for a daytrip if you have to change buses. Rome2rio.com shows bus service from Orvieto to Civita di Bagnoregio six times per week. You could take the train from Rome to Orvieto and then a taxi to Civita, and return.

Lynne,

I suppose that trip is possible as a day trip from Rome, but it would be a long day.

You'd first have to take the train from Rome to Orvieto (about one hour) and then connect with the Cotral Bus to Bagnoregio. When you arrive there, either walk to Civita (about a mile as I recall) or take the small Shuttle Bus. I vaguely remember that the Shuttle takes a "siesta" in the afternoon (not sure if that's still the case?), so you'd have to plan your trip back to Bagnoregio carefully in order to avoid missing the last Bus to Orvieto. I believe the Orvieto-Bagnoregio bus provides a few extra runs when school is in session, so you'll have to check the schedules at the time of your visit.

From the base of the bridge, it will take 10-15 minutes to walk up to Civita. While there are no vehicles in Civita, I've been passed by small motorcycles while walking on the bridge.
