Train Options Milan to Lucca

We are staying near Milano Cadorna station. We plan to go to Lucca on Sat Sep 20. To get to Lucca with the best cost/benefit, looks like we would take a taxi to either Milan Centrale or Milan Rogoredo, then train from there.

Rogoredo shows a Frecciarossa option which is much faster than IC trains out of Milan. Looking for expert guidance on best options for us. BTW, I use the RomeToRio site because it seems to cover so many more options than Trenitalia. As always thank you for your guidance!! Tom

No one can give you their opinion of the best option without knowing what day you want to go from Milan to Lucca, there is no set daily train schedule, but take the fastest option with 1 change of trains.

We just did the opposite: Lucca to Milane Centrale. It's regional trains from Lucca to Florence, which means no seat reservations and the price is always the same. The regionals ran on time and were not crowded this week. At Florence, you'll want a high speed train. If you book as soon as the schedule comes out, first class is quite reasonable and very quiet and comfortable, complimentary drinks and snacks. Rome to Rio is a starting point, but always use the train's own app and book on the app.
Enjoy!
