Hello!
My sister and I are traveling from Rome to Florence on September 2 with 1 large suitcase each (and maybe one carry on). Which service (standard, premium, business salottino, etc in Trenitalia, or Smart, Comfort, Prima, etc in Italotreno) should we get? Of course I don't need to splurge here, as it is a short ride, but I want to make sure we won't have issues with our luggage (which I understand travels with us, not checked in?) and of course be in a clean and comfortable ambiance.

Never had a problem with luggage traveling standard class on Freccia trains on Trenitalia. You can use the racks at the car ends. The train is nonstop after Roma Tiburtina. Trains before 8:00 am and the 8:35 all originate at Termini, so if you take one of those and get there 15 minutes early, you will be the first on board and have dibs on luggage racks.

One other note, there are no porters to help you carry your bags. You are expected to get them on and off the train by yourselves. Smaller is better.
