train Monterossa al Mare to Nice

How far does the "milk train" go in that direction? Monterossa doesn't work in the train sites I've used, so I'm thinking I need to book from where it terminates (Levanto? Genoa?) to go to Nice. Or can I buy the ticket at the Monterossa station to go all the way?
I've done this before but, sadly, I just can't remember how I did it! Also, I can't remember if I bought the ticket ahead of time or just the day before at the station.
This is why we travel when we're young! Thanks!

It doesn't work maybe because you misspelled the name. It's Monterosso (ending with O not A).

Try with www.trenitalia.com
Enter
from: MONTEROSSO
to: NICE VILLE
Select a date in the near future, and set the time starting from early in the morning (like 03:00)
Lots of choices, but all requiring some train changes somewhere along the line.
You can buy the ticket at the Monterosso station or online on the day you depart.

I think you may need to switch trains in Genoa. I bought my train tickets from Nice a few days before my departure. I would not wait until that day. I think my seat was reserved, so you may not have much of a seating choice if you wait until the day of travel.

There are seats on all the IC trains departing from MonterossO to GenoVa within the next 7 hours; seat availability does not seem to be a problem, at least not on working days. On weekends it may be different.

On the other hand, the quickest combination with only 1 or 2 changes is in the early morning and you'd be using only Regional trains. No way to reserve seats on such "milk trains".

You can buy any Trenitalia ticket at any Trenitalia station all over Italy.

As the others have mentioned, there are numerous trains to choose from on that route. Check the Bahn.de website for a list of all the possibilities.

I prefer trains with the fewest number of changes, and on that route it looks like two is the minimum number. For example, there's a departure from Monterosso at 07:29, arriving Nice Ville at 13:23 (time 5H:54M, 2 changes at Genova Piazza Principe and Ventimiglia). I usually like a slightly later departure and there's another with two changes departing at 10:55. If you're willing to have three changes, there are lots more possibilities.

Happy travels!
