Do you have to have a chip and pin card to buy train ticketts at a kiosk or will they take a regular credit card?
It depends on where you are at. In northern Europe, Netherlands, etc., the chip and pin is required. In Italy is it is still a mix some of the newer machines require the chip and pin while the older machines do not. Where are you traveling.
Kathryn, In my experience, the Kiosks in Italy are still accepting the older magnetic strip cards. Although I use "Chip & PIN" cards, I've never been asked to enter a PIN. However, I suspect at some point the older technology may be phased out. Happy travels!
We will be in Milan, Florence and the Cinque Terre.
The kiosks will also take cash and give change up to €20.
You might find this helpful. The entire RonInRome.com site is fantastic, too!
You be fine in those areas. It is easy to spot the kiosk that take mag strip cards. They are the ones with all of the tourist gathered around and using them. Will be there in May so we can give an updated report.
