Hello all,
I am attempting to book train travel from Bologna to Assisi. I have tried Trenitalia and also Trainline at different times of day, different fare classes, etc. and cannot seem to be able to book a ticket either round trip or one way! I am not sure what's going on. I am getting error messages on every booking platform and I have also tried booking on multiple devices (laptop, desktop and iPad).
Is it just me or is something going on with train travel on the day I am trying to book (Sept. 21)?
Any help would be much appreciated. I am trying to get to Assisi for a workshop that is starting on Sept. 22 and have already booked my travel to Bologna so that I leave on the 21st, so not much wiggle room.
Anyway, would appreciate any help.

The train schedules are updated in mid-June, which is probably why you’re not seeing anything now. They won’t hardly be any different from what they are now, so you can try looking for the schedules for only a few days from now, just to see what’s available. Also, the only trains for which you might (optionally) want to make a reservation are the fast (Freccia) trains, since you might be able to get a discount (but then you are locked into that specific train - no refund if you miss it). The Regionale trains never sell out, are already inexpensive, and don’t have discounts.
From Bologna you would travel to Florence, change trains to get to Assisi. I just ran that combination and it works. It did not work if I asked for Bologna to Assisi. Not sure why.
Thanks so much Christine and Inbisig! Will try again in a week or so.
Hi Robert,
I just tried what you suggested. Was able to book Bologna to Florence, but the leg from Florence to Assisi got me the same old error messages. What type of train did you book on (Regional, Inter-City, etc.)?
I had a look on Trenitalia at trains for the first Sunday in June and found lots of options. Did you select Bologna (all stations)? You have to look carefully at each option, since some are much faster than others. The fastest I saw was 3 1/2 hrs with a Freccia rossa to Florence, then a fast regional to Assissi. When the train schedule for September 21 is loaded sometime next month, you should find a similar schedule. Just need to wait.
Hi Robert,
In the interim, I was able to book Bologna to Florence, then Florence to Assisi. Hallelujah!
I appreciate your help!
Have a fantastic day!
