After a 10 day trip to Switzerland, my party of four will be traveling on to Stresa from Zermatt for a 2 day stay. From Stresa we need to take the train into Milan to Varenna where we will stay a night before going to Tirano to ride the Bernina Express. We plan to stop in Samedan for a night before making our way back to Zurich. I have travelled in Europe a lot (being originally from England and now live in US) but have never been to Italy! My question is about the trains. I am trying to see if it would be feasible to go to Milan early morning from Stresa. Store luggage, get the Metro to see the Duomo di Milano or possibly take a walking tour to do the Duomo and see The Last Supper. We would then need to get to Varenna last afternoon to arrive at our B&B there. I have checked train times but am wondering what others think about this idea and whether I should skip see Milan and just change trains in Milan and go straight to Varenna?
