Yes but it would take a long time. Consider taking Air One, which flies nonstop from Venice to Naples in 70 minutes for about 127 euros. By contrast, the train takes six hours and requires at least one change for 75 euros Amica or 92 standard.

The 2nd class Eurostar is 67.50 and it will feel like 1st class. The 8:43 from Venice changes trains at Roma Termini at 1:00 in the afternoon. Before you get right on the next train to Naples however, consider that Roma Termini is also a metro stop so the whole city of Rome is just minutes away from there, including the colosseum, st. peters, via del corso, spanish steps, etc. So you could spend a few hours wandering the streets in Rome and then catch a later train to Naples. Go to www.trenitalia.it to see the schedules. I assume you're leaving from the Grand Canal, which is "venezia s.l.", and arriving at "napoli".

Gary has a good idea. However, it you wish to get off at Rome and wander around for a few hours, do not buy a ticket with seat reservations from Venice to Naples. If you get off at Rome and your next train with reservations departs, your ticket goes with it. Instead, buy a ticket from Venice to Rome and a second ticket from Rome to Naples. The second ticket will most likely have a date, time, train number and seat reservations so make sure that the departure of this second train gives you enough time to wander around and get back in time for departure.
