Train from Zurich to Bologna and Bologna hotel question

Husband and I are taking the train from Zurich to Bologna via MIlan in June. Can anyone tell me what this route is like? Is it scenic? Is one train "better" than another? (more timely, more comfortable, whatever)

Second question. We are going to Bologna to tour the Ducati factory and want to stay one night there before meeting our RS tour in Venice. Do you have a favorite hotel in Bologna city center? We typically go for Rick's middle of the road recommendations in his guides, but of course he has none in Bologna.....

Bologna is a great city, and comes up regularly on the forum. Use the search box at the upper right to find earlier discussions and hotel recommendations.

I like the Hotel Porta San Mamolo (3 star)

It is located just on the inside edge of the "ring road" around the central historic district, on the opposite side of town from the rail station, but not far by taxi.

Most hotels in Bologna are business traveler oriented.

I liked the Hotel Roma on via d'azeglio just south of Piazza Maggiore. Great location, you can walk everywhere.
