Train from Verona to Malpensa

At the end of our stay in Italy in March, we will need to get from Verona to Malpensa on a Sunday for an early Monday morning flight. Trenitalia shows us going from Verona to Milano Centrale to Nord Cadorna to Malspensa. We would take the Frecciabianca going from Verona Porta Nuova to Milano Centrale. The train from Milano Centrale to Milano Nord Cadorna is Urbano (not sure what that is) and the train from Nord Cadorna to Malpensa is Regionale. The site says I cannot buy a travel solution with urban service. Does that mean I cannot book in advance? Should I book the day of travel? Thanks for your advice.

You are correct in taking the Freccia train from Verona to Milano Centrale (MC).

You can purchase the first leg of your trip Verona > Milano Centrale up to 120 days in advance for a discounted price but keep in mind that these type of tickets are for a specific train, and time and are unchangeable & nonrefundable.

You cannot buy a Regionale (Malpensa Express) train ticket that far in advance but only up to 7 days in advance. There is no advantage in buying this ticket in advance as the price is the same @ €12pp.
You can buy this ticket the day before you plan to travel.

** If your hotel in Milan is closer to Milano Nord Cadorna (near historic center) then the Malpensa Express train takes
less time to get to The Malpensa Airport (about 30 minutes vs. 52 mins, from MC)

Are you planning on staying at a hotel near the airport on the Sunday night?

My suggestion, without knowing all of your details, would be to catch the Frecciabianca service to Milan on the Sunday (and book this now). Then on the Monday morning catch the Malpensa express to the airport (http://www.malpensaexpress.it/en/) That way you can have a night in Milan rather than at the airport.

Thanks for your replies. We are staying near the airport on Sunday night. We could take an early train to Milan and spend the day there before going on to Malpensa that evening. I assume Centrale is close to city center??

Carol,

I don't know what your hotel cancellation policy is but some will let you cancel a week or a couple of days prior to your stay.

If you want to explore Milan on Sunday, before heading home the following morning, you might consider booking a hotel
near Sforzesco Castle which is near the Cadorna train station and the historic center.

The Malpensa Express train takes 26-32 minutes from Cadorna station to Malpensa Airport.

carol,

You don't have to travel from Milano Centrale to "Nord Cadorna" to reach Malpensa, although it is possible to reach the airport from there. "Urbano" indicates that you'd have to use Metro or Trams between the two stations.

It would help to know what time your flight is, and whether you're planning to spend your last night in Milan or Verona.

With some further information, it would be easier to provide more specific details.

Ken, in her second post she says she is staying out at the airport on the Sunday night. Previous replies have also explained she can get the airport express direct from Milano Centrale.

mph,

I normally read the previous replies, but in this case I didn't. If the OP has the necessary information, I guess the problem is solved.
