Train from vernazza to murren

We are wanting go by train from Vernazza, Italy to Murren, SW on a Sunday. I can find a number of train routing through the Swiss train website. However it won't let me purchase the tickets in advance. Do I need to wait until I am in Italy to buy them.? And where do I buy them.? Thank you.

What are your dates? Have your tried trenitalia.com or bahn.de. It is sometimes difficult to get ticket crossing borders. The bahn site will give schedule info but you cannot buy tickets unless the route begins or ends in Germany.

It will be difficult to buy at a single site, since they are both out of the way locations. You know you will have to pass through Milan, so try buying a ticket from Vernazza to Milano Centrale at www.trenitalia.com, then a ticket from Milano Centrale to Muerren from www.sbb.ch/en. Allow at least an hour to change trains in Milan to cover a delay on the inbound train.

rj,

That's a fairly straight forward albeit long trip. Here's one method you can try.....

You didn't specify which date you'll be travelling, but you should be able to buy tickets for the trip from Vernazza to Spiez (CH). There are only a couple of solutions shown on the website now, and the departure at 07:29 would be a good choice, arriving in Spiez at 13:53 (time 6H:24M, 2 changes).

You can buy the tickets for that part of the route either on the Trenitalia website or from www.captaintrain.com which sells tickets at the same price as those offered by the rail networks. The Captain Train website is very user friendly.

When you arrive at Spiez you can either.....

  1. Go inside the station and buy tickets from there to Mürren. That only takes a few minutes so is very easy to do.
  2. Purchase advance tickets from Spiez to Mürren on the sbb.ch website.

When you buy tickets to Mürren, specify the BLM route. Are you clear on the route you'll be taking to Mürren (there are two options)?
