Anyone know how to get from Venice to Vernazza in the Cinque Terre on the train? 2 adults and 2 children.

Use http://www.trenitalia.com . Names of cities must be Venezia S. Lucia>Vernazza.
English Icon in upper corner. The trip is around 6 hrs. with 2-4changes.

It's somewhat easier to see your schedule on Deutsche Bahn website but to buy tickets you have to go to Trenitalia website.

That trip will have several changes, regardless of which route you use. The number of changes and trip duration will depend on which train you choose. The Trenitalia website provides all the solutions.
It's easy to pre-purchase tickets for the fast trains online, but it's better to purchase tickets for any Regionale trains you'll be using while in Italy. You can buy tickets either at a Kiosk for at a staffed ticket office. Note that tickets for the fast trains have compulsory reservations, and are specific to train, date, and departure time so you can only use the ONE train listed. Tickets for Regionale trains must be validated prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot.
If you want to purchase some of the tickets in advance to save money, you can also buy at www.italiarail.com (may be a small fee, but the website is easier to use).
