We are planning our first trip to Italy. Our last Italian city is Venice but we want to end our trip with a visit to the Christmas market in Nuremberg. Does anyone have thoughts or tips on train travel between those cities? Travelling during the day is preferred. Thank you in advance!.

Takes you about 9 hrs. from Venice to Nürnberg by train. Train must be changed in Munich. I would suggest check out DB (German Railway) or the Italian Railway page.

do you know about the Bahn's website and/or app? that's the official and best place to get information on European trains, especially German ones.
Pop in Venice (Venezia S.L. in Italian, Venise Santa Lucia in German) to Nuremburg (Nürnberg Hbf in German) and you'll get the best choices.
It will take all day, about 8 hours 45, with a change of train at Verona and another at Munich. If you are on the 9:10 from Venice you'll arrive at your destination around 6pm, so it will be dark.
It is quite a scenic route as you travel through the Dolomites and Alps...
