We have booked the "Heart of Italy in 11 Days" at the end of October. We are spending 2 nights in Venice prior to the start of our trip. We need to be in Florence for 3PM on Saturday, Oct. 25th for the start of our tour. It appears that we only have one choice of taking a 6:30AM train to Florence on this day. We would prefer to leave Venice around 9AM instead of waking before the rooster crows. If I look at the current train schedules it displays many choices for departure. When I pull up the Oct.25th date it only displays this choice. Is it too soon to display the schedules or do they have fewer trains traveling on Saturdays? Please advise the very confused.
When you look as far out as October, you may not see realism in the train schedules. Those of us on the site mostly look within the current 30-60 days for current schedules. These schedules change every so often but they don't change much. William is correct. There's a half dozen trains leaving Venice for Florence that will get you to Florence on time for our tour. I also agree with Swan. Get your tickets for this journey as soon as you arrive in Venice. Ask for the Amica fare. You might be fortunate to get the 20% discount.
The current Saturday schedule shows 6 trains leaving Venice between 6:43 a.m.and 11:45 a.m. that will get you to Florence before 2:15 P.M. Although the October schedule isn't available, on this route there should be little change to it through out the year.
Whichever train you choose for your departure from Venice, make your reservations when you arrive in Venice. If you wait til the day of departure, the train may be full or you may be stuck standing up without a seat. I speak from experience; a couple of years ago I thought I would be leisurely about my train reservation so just showed up at the train station an hour before my desired departure. I had to take a later train because the one I wanted was full.
