We will be taking a cruise from Civitavecchia cruise port in September. We are considering going to Venice before and looking for any advice on getting from Venice to the cruise port. Wondering if we could comfortably do it in one day or would we be best to overnight in Rome?

I think it depends on what time you are expected to be at Civitavecchia to board the ship. Train time to Rome is about 3 hours and 30 to 45 minutes and another 1 1/2 to 2 hour transfer time plus train time to Civitavecchia, plus give yourself at least an hour to get to the dock and board the ship at Civitavecchia. First train is around 6 am and at least one train connection every hour after that.
