The exact train station from Venice is Venezia St Lucia.
The Cinque Terre has 5 different train stops for the 5 towns
Do you know which town you want to stop at first?
If not you can just book your ticket to La Spezia and go from there.
I usually book directly with the train company https://www.trenitalia.com/
But some find the site https://www.thetrainline.com/ more user friendly as you can use either the English or the Italian spelling of the train stations. Though you have to pay a little more for the ticket using https://www.thetrainline.com/

There is only one train station in Venice proper: Venezia Santa Lucia. To get there from S. Marco you will need to take the vaporetto to the Ferrovia vaporetto stop.

I've never had a problem with the trenitalia website, but some Americans have problems with credit card acceptance there, so in that case use trainline as Jazz+travels mentioned. You will want to select the particular CT village that you are staying at. Vernazza will require different train changes than Monterosso, for example.

Take a Trenitalia Freccia-something train from Venezia S. Lucia to Milano Centrale, then a Trenitalia Intercity train from Milano Centrale to Monterosso.

Getting a through ticket to Monterosso on trenitalia.com your connection at Milano Station will be protected. Going via Milan you will minimise transfers and you will have reserved seats all the way to Monterosso.

You can learn Italian city names now, using official sites, or in Italy while checking on Departures monitors and listening to loudspeakers

We too will be traveling from Venice to Cinque Terre by train. Looking at the two options for trains from Venice to Monterosso, Are the costs the same? Does one option have nan shorter train travel time? Thanks

You can answer this question yourself: go on the Trenitalia website and look at trains for next week (schedules may vary depending on when you go, not sure).

https://www.trenitalia.com/

(click on the Italian flag in the upper right corner and change it to a British flag for English)

Starting station is Venezia S. Lucia
Ending station is Monterosso (or Vernazza, or Corniglia, or Manarola, or Riomaggiore...or perhaps Levanto or some other nearby town).

This is how I check schedules, likely prices, etc.

Last time I did a similar journey in 2017, I traveled from Venice to Camogli, just north of the Cinque Terre. I did not have a fixed schedule so did not book trains until the last minute. That meant that the Frecciarossa and IC trains were pretty expensive (you can save money on them usually if you book them way in advance) - but the regional trains are the same price no matter when you book them (no reserved seating), so I took regional trains from Venice to Camogli. It took about an extra hour, but I really didn't care - I love trains.

For this route, you'll either go through Milan or Florence. One may take a little longer than the other but have fewer changes and/or get you there at a more convenient time. Just pick an option that works best for you.

We followed the route Dario recommended. We took a Frecca Train (tickets purchased online months in advance to save money) from Venice Santa Lucia to Milano Centrale. From there we took an Intercity train (tickets also purchased ahead online) to Monterossa where we stayed for our visit of CT. We liked the fact that we had reserved seats on each train, and there was only one stop in Milan.

We are doing the same thing in June. We are staying in Vernazza for 2 nights. We leave Vernazza to Monterosso, Monterosso to Milano Centrale (Intercity Train),and then from Milano Centrale to Venezia S. Lucia (Frecca Train). The Intercity Train and the Frecca Trains are not available to purchase yet beyond June 13. I believe that this way is the fastest way for us. You will probably be reversing our order. The best site is Trenitalia.com.
