Train from Venice to Cinque Terre

Where do you pick up the train to get from Venice to La Spezia? Do I have to go to the Marco Polo Airport?

Nope. No need to go to the airport. The train station is right there in the historical center of Venice on the Grand Canal. It's called VENEZIA SANTA LUCIA station. Use Google Maps to see where it is. It's very visible from the satellite photo.
To go to Spezia you need to change trains a few times. There is no direct train from Venice to La Spezia.
Use www.trenitalia.com to see schedules and prices (use a date in the next seven days to see sample options).

At least now, there are trains once every 2 hours that get from Venice S.L. to La Spezia with only a single train change in Florence. It is also the fastest route.

For nearly all national railway schedules in Europe, the DB site is easy to use and to print schedule options (but does not sell Italian tickets), such as from Venezia S. Lucia station to whichever town you're actually staying in. For instance, if Vernazza is your destination, instead of La Spezia, then specify that destination. If you have a guidebook for Italy, maps in any book will show the train station location, or Google Maps also do.
