Train from Venice

Traveling with a group of four to Venice in May. We want to take the train from Venice to Rome. Can we purchase tickets upon arrival in Venice, or is it advisable to buy them before we go? Do the trains sell out?

Hi Jay. There are many trains per day on this route; a train will occassionally sell out if at a prime time. The main advantage to buying in advance (trenitalia.com) is a discount fare if you are willing to lock in an exact date and time. Select a train to see possible discount fares. 'Base' fare is what you will pay in Italy at last minute; 'mini' fare is if you buy online today (will change as seats sell on that train). Enjoy your trip.

Jay, Yes, you can purchase tickets upon arrival in Venice. I'd suggest buying them a few days before you'll be travelling, as you should be able to get the discounted "Mini" fares. Have a look at This Website for details. There are departures about every hour, so you won't have any trouble getting tickets. You'll require seat reservations on this route, and these will be included in the cost of the tickets. Note that your departure station will be Venezia Santa Lucia and your arrival station will be Roma Termini. Happy travels!
