Train from Venice

Hi, we would like to day trip from Venice. We would like to catch a train to Verona, spend a few hours . We would then get a train to Padua, get off for part of the day and eve. Finally the train back to Venice to sleep. Would we have to buy 3 separate tickets or if we book round trip Venice to Verona, could we get off in Padua and then back on again. I know we were able to do this in Switzerland.

Each leg needs a ticket
It’s not a hop on hop off train ;)

Be sure to validate paper tickets

Hello Mtndog,

You will want to book fast trains for at least some of these legs to save travel time on a day trip. Fast trains come with specific classes, tickets, and seat reservations as opposed to regionale trains which are just "get on the train" class. So the advantage of speed comes with the obligations of schedules and you only get the best price for buying ahead of time so 'day of' tickets are guaranteed to be the most expensive.

I would advise at least booking the initial leg of Venice to Verona on the fast train to save an hour in transit. Using the regionale from then on will give you more flexibility in when you want to go from city to city versus having to get back to Verona train station at a specific time. The time savings between Verona and Padua/Padova is less dramatic so I'd opt for the flexibility and savings of just buying a regionale ticket for the next train from Verona.

Get the Treniltalia app to check schedules, track trains and buy tickets from the app.

Have a great trip, those are all great places,
