train from varenna to nice sept 30-- may need to forgo beaches because too chilly?

i looked on trenitalia web page and am wondering if this service has been cut back. I know I will have to change trains in ventimiglia and that I cannot make reservations for that leg of the trip.

Has anyone had recent experiences with this?

Also seems like southern france coast will be chilly in the first week of oct. perhaps it's wise to visit more country towns/wine country as will be too chilly to take in cassis or Hyeres.

thanks all!

A new direct Milan to Marseille (via Nice) daily train had been launched recently. It is managed by Thello, a joint-venture company formed 50/50 by Trenitalia and SNCF.

Here is the timetable:

So from Varenna to Nice is just one train change at Milano Centrale.

Sorry, no advice for swimming in late september!

You are not likely to see September/October schedules online until about June. Plan around the spring schedules you see now and reconfirm closer to you travel date. I have happily swum in the summer-warmed waters in protected areas of the Mediterranean through early October, and the Calenques near Cassis definitely fit that description.

Many thanks! After much debate looks like our week exploring the C'ote D'azur and provence will be shared between cagnes sur mer and la seyne sur mer with day trips north to see provence....
