It looks like I can take a train from Varenna to Milan, and then a separate train from Milan to Florence, but I was wondering if there are any direct trains from Varenna to Florence. Do you know if any trains that go through Varenna go on to Florence? Thank you.

Kathy, Only Regionale trains are used on the route from Varenna to Milano Centrale (AFAIK), so you WILL have to change trains in Milan. With a Regionale, DON'T forget to validate your ticket, or you'll risk a hefty fine. Happy travels!
