I am curious in to how long the train ride is from Tirano to Milan. I'm wanting to book train tickets from Milan to Florence in August.
It's just over 3 hours.
You won't be able to book August tickets until 120 days in advance. Keep in mind that there is a schedule change in mid June and the slower trains get loaded last into the schedule.

t1,
The ride is 2H:32M and current cost is €11.50 PP. It's a Regionale so don't forget to validate tickets prior to boarding the train if you plan to purchase them locally. You can see all the solutions on the Trenitalia website.
As I recall, sitting on the right side of the train (when facing forward) provides the best views of Lago di Como.
