Train From Termini to Airport in Rome

I will arrive at Termini (from Florence) at 8:45 AM. The next train to the airport leaves Termini at 8:52 AM. Will I have time to make the connection? I understand the track for the airport train is a long distance from the rest of the station. I can take an earlier train from Florence, but would prefer not to. Thanks in advance!

Most likely not. The Leonard Express is about half way down on the far right hand side as you face the tracks. It is a several minutes walk from the front of the station to the loading point. Add the time to get off your train, get to the front of your platform, and then to LE. You need the earlier train or wait 30 minutes for the next LE.

They leave on time unless there is a strike. I would not risk it. Best take the earlier train.

Ditto on making the connection, it just won't be possible...arrive earlier into Termini or you'll have to wait for the 9:22 (or whatever) train.

The Leonardo Express track #24 is an auxilliary track nearly a 10 minute walk from the main area inside the Termini station. Plus you'll need a couple minutes to actually buy the ticket from a machine at the track or from the tabacchi adjacent.

I realize most people are just looking to save a few bucks by taking the airport express train, but taxis now have fixed fares to the airport and should only run about $50-60US, so if you are going to be crunched for time or can't change your train ticket, just take a taxi from Termini.

Thanks everyone. A couple of follow-up questions.

My flight leaves at 11:20 AM. If I take the 9:22 train I'll get to the airport at 9:53. Is that that early enough to make my flight? (the date is Friday, November 12). If I get in a taxi at 9:00, what time will I get to the airport? Also, is the price of a taxi from Rome to FCO fixed, just as it is from FCO to Rome?

Thanks so much!

A couple of issues -- is your flight a direct flight back to the US or a connecting flight in Europe? A big difference and big difference time wise. An hour and half is enough for a domestic flight (connecting in Europe) but not an international flight.

Second while L Express used to use the platform 24 and 25 those platforms are now used by the Civit.... trains. The L Express is along the same walk but much closer to front by about half the distance -- still a long walk just not as long. Buy the L Express ticket at any station before hand so that all you have to do is VALIDATE the ticket in one of the yellow boxes.

I know the taxi is fixed at 40 E from the airport but don't know about return trip. Ask the driver specifically or the started at the cue. At that time of day it could be a slow drive.

Thanks Frank! My flight is direct back to the US. Is getting to FCO 2 hours before my flight enough time?

No -- If it is was a real early flight -- maybe but the airport can get to be zoo later in the day. I am a little surprised that a direct flight is leaving that early. Direct flights use terminal 5, International terminal, and you have have to bus from the main terminal to 5. The recommendations is three hours and that is reasonable. You could cut it to two and half but do not think you can safely be under two. I think you need to be walking in the airport no later than 9 AM. Sorry about that !!

Thank you again Frank. Can you tell me more about getting to Terminal 5? From the L Express, do I go diretly to the bus to Terminal 5? Or do I go into the main terminal, check-in and go through security first? Any tips or info you can provide would be most helpful. Thanks!

Last February I took the train from Termini on a Thursday, early evening. For some unexplained reason, the train was about 30 minutes late leaving the station - we all just sat on the train and waited for it to leave.

It can happen.

Since the trains run on 30 min cycle are you sure you were not sitting on the next train to go?
